Rise and shine!

“Rise and Shine Darling!”said Ananya as she drew the curtains to let in the morning sun. She adored the view from their balcony. Carrying the steaming mugs of Ginger tea, she noticed Rahul climbing out of slumber. The aromatic power of ginger tea wafting in the room, always worked like a charm.

As they cuddled in their favourite nook, sipping their morning cuppa, watching the snow peaked mountains of Mussoorie, rapt in the chill of the morning breeze specially sent across by those very mountains, they kissed before they embarked on their busy routines. ” Hey meet me for lunch at President, OK!”said Rahul before he disappeared.

Rahul zoomed off on his motorcycle for one more of his early morning meetings, while Ananya went about her daily chores, before signing in to her official work.As she dusted, she lovingly picked up the photo of Rahul and herself on their first date. It captured the disaster it had been, in all its inglorious detail.

Ananya was still smarting from having broken up with her fiance of few months. He didn’t have the gall to say anything to her face. But when she was visiting her parents, he called up her Mother, to say all was over between them. He found her over confident and opinionated. What the ###?

Rahul was a cheerful, happy-go-lucky person who had worked hard all his life as he wanted to be successful. He had learnt early on that success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration. A self motivator he admired people for who they were strengths and weaknesses et al.

That day, he didn’t like the angry lady , who snubbed before she spoke. He tried his best and this picture in Ananya’s hand was an attempt to lighten up. You could perceive the fumes emanating from her, and he looked ………. let’s just leave it at uncomfortable! How could anyone rise from there?

They had no plans to meet ever again.

A few weeks later Rahul was stuck, as his bike was giving him trouble and he had very little time to reach for a meeting with an important client. The rush hour wasn’t helping at all. Suddenly a shiny red Polo stopped beside him. Perplexed he turned to see who was calling out his name. It was someone vaguely familiar, oh wait, ” Ananya?” he blurted. He couldn’t believe this smiling lady was Ananya. Seemed like her twin. Laughing, she enquired if she could help. Obviously he was having trouble and she could drop him somewhere, as she was on her way to Mussoorie. Gladly he hopped in thanking her profusely.

Meetings in coffee shops soon metamorphosed to dinner dates. Next they knew, they were planning surprises for their first Valentine together. Ananya rose to the occasion, planned a cordon bleu meal, cooked entirely at home, along with dessert. The decor was a profusion of candles and roses in every room and not just the parlour. But when Rahul turned up that evening he had love in his eyes and only a single Sunflower in hand! He knew she loved the sun and seemed to positively thrive on its energy. Ananya giggled and laughed till she could no more.

In the soft glow of the zillions of candles around the beautifully decorated home and the heady  fragrance of the gazillion roses she was totally taken aback when he pulled out a small box from his jacket pocket. and there nestled on purple velvet sat the most brilliant diamond ring, winking at her. As she looked up, Rahul asked, ” Will you marry me?”
