Murder at Midnight

They came quietly in the dark. There was absolute silence. First the older one crept close to the edge of the boundary. As sentinels, they took their tasks very seriously. Peering through the darkness; their night vision so perfect, they could see everything as clear as daylight, they saw the coast was clear. They waved to the others waiting, some barely half their age.

They just spilled over onto their favourite arena. Jumping and scrambling for joy. One after the other, and those eager beavers, who couldn’t wait, raced abreast. So much to explore, so many games to play. X125 and his mates had a list. Running straight up the wall… Check. Jumping down …Check. Clambering over all hurdles, high and low … Check. Tug of War, with those from the nearby settlement… Check.

Suddenly they were blinded by the harsh, white light of all the strobes turning on. All hell broke loose. They started running as fast as their legs would move. Adrenalin pumping, hearts thumping, Fear froze their screams. Pulling. Pushing. Jostling. Scrambling. Galloping. Oh no!

There she stood! With her mane of Pink, Purple and Blue hair radiating behind her. This gargantuan creature used such a high pitch voice, it deafened them. The older ones kept calling to the young ones to take shelter behind, under, inside the closest cover they could find. It was going to be War, alright!

Then She pulled out Her weapon. Like Durga, striking asuras she swished her weapon left, right, centre, behind, high, low, everywhere. Her face gleamed with a Divine glow as she focused on her task. She had to annihilate each one of them. These nefarious, Knavish, nocturnal creatures. They didn’t have any right to live. She worried about her people. Her arms moved in a mesmerizing choreography, adding to her aura. And then she held up her weapon with a flourish as she saw the last one succumb! Her can of “Hit”! Always reliable!
