Melody

“Melody itni chocolatey kaise bani?”

“ Melody khao, khud jaan jao!”

As she bit into her ‘Melody’ she felt her teeth sink into the creamy toffee, before the gooey chocolatey centre slowly oozed out into her mouth, swirling slowly as the taste buds first seized the tantalizing rich sweetness and the chocolate explosively spread into every nook and cranny.

“ Mmmmm”, “ Yummmm”, “Aaaaassssoooommmmeeee” she mumbled to herself as her eyes shut dreamily , sporting her to Food Heaven!

She dragged herself back to the present as she listened to the beautiful notes wafting from her neighbour’s windows as he played his piano. He was a famous pianist and during this period of the Lockdown, he was trying to lift his neighbours’ mood. And was it working…

It seemed as delightful as the chocolates called “Melody” in her childhood. The music was rich, beginning with soft notes, as the sun set in the distance, majestically changed the colours of the evening sky as if creating the perfect backdrop for a magnificent performance. The neighbours slowly trooped out into their balconies. Some had their wine glasses, and some had their cups of tea or coffee. As the soothing, cool breeze blew she didn’t know which was more comforting, the music, the breeze or the sight of all the neighbours joining in for the riveting performance. Soon the rich fluid notes of the piano rising to a crescendo was joined by the ‘Boom Boom’ of the drums. The audience quickly joined in with their own “ Clap clap” “ Clap clap clap.” How long the melodious performance went on, none knew as everyone was absorbed, forgetting everything else, the containment, the distance, the fear. It was replaced with Contentment, Connection and Creativity! And the Melody moved on….
