Ding dong went the bell
Flip – flop, flip- flop I went running
Checking my reflection
Oh what the hell,
No one’s coming!
Parcel Ma’am, sign please!
The box he handed
Sure did please!
Ivory white, with pink and red hearts
Broad organza gold ribbon
around the sides,
The bow was perfect-
Perfectly knotted
Trailing ribbons on either side!
If the box was so gorgeous
Whatever inside
Was already adored in my mind!
Lovingly I carried the box
Settling down, nervously
fingering my locks!
Tugging the bow gently
Pried off the wrapper methodically!
Gently the fragrance filled the room:
As from inside peeked a bloom
Perfect it was in shape and size
Seared my heart- to choose any gloom!
The brightest red of the rose
Vied with the hues of our first kiss
Thoughtfully framed!
Now that my vision was not so bright
My Darling had thought to
brighten my sight!
Grandsons are such a delight!
