The Nameless God is a book I had been waiting to read for a long time, not just for its unique title but since it had been recommended heavily by my friend.
The book did not just live up to its reputation but was a soul-satisfying read. A slim book that appears to be for children, since the protagonists are two young friends, Noor and Bachchu, is actually for anyone who picks up the book. I would like to believe the author Savie Karnel has been very clever in rendering her message to one and all, especially the so-called, grown-ups.
With the back drop of riots which often break out in the streets for reasons none can remember, the interesting story revolves around children seeking a boon from God. The way the characters go on to have a nameless God resonates with their innocence and their pure beliefs.
The sequence of events till the children reach their home and safety highlighting the strength of kind, sensitive, and truly wise people along with the Indian armed forces made the book un-put-downable.
Strong characterisation, simple diction, and great imagery adds to the reading experience. Before I wind up I must mention Kangaroo, the mongrel that’s adopted by the boys has been given such loving traits, he lingers on in my mind.
Lots of points to ponder and chew on.
I would recommend it to everyone. More strength to your pen Savie Karnel! Looking forward to your next!
